For the activity I choose to do the
Eating Green Calculator. In this activity I had to put in how many servings of pork, beef, chicken, eggs, milk and cheese I eat in a week. After putting the servings that I eat in week, the site gave you the results of the environmental burden of animal products you eat in a year. My results were shocking...I had no idea the impact I was making that big of an impact on the environment. I found it really crazy because I really don't eat that much meat in my diet but I still had bad results! I don't know if I could go vegan because I need that dairy in my diet to grow strong bones!!! This was a good eye opener but I still feel that everyone needs a little bit of protein in their diet for health reasons...just my opinion.
I will try and eat fewer meat products and dairy products (even though I am pretty much in love with cheese and eat it with everything). I am for sure always trying to increase my fruit and veggies servings. I have already did the good thing with only buying whole grains products.

Ingy, that's funny that you love milk products so much! I know its hard to take the facts they are presenting and really believe that they are true! Its crazy, right?! Good luck with trying to eat less of the cheeses and meats! I agree with you I do not feel like I could go vegan, it would be so life changing, and I don't know enough about it to make wise choices! Great job Ingrid!
ReplyDeleteChallenge: You stated that you "need that dairy in my diet to grow strong bones." Is this an accurate statement? Is it fact or belief? Can you support this statement with evidence?
ReplyDeleteI don't eat that much meat either and I was shocked to see how harmful my diet was for the environment and animals! It's definitely hard to change your diet when you're so used to it.
ReplyDeleteHey Ingrid!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I don't think I could ever become a vegan. I'd shrivel up and die haha. I agree that milk and meat are good sources of calcium and protein but I think what Dr. V is saying is that there are many other food sources to obtain those nutrients! Well good post, and good job with only buying whole grain nutrients!
Hey Ingrid...I guess we'll have to try and reduce all that cheese we eat;) Good luck with that, huh? No more breakfast sandwiches...now that's a sad story.
ReplyDeleteIngrid- I would have to agree with you--consuming less cheese will be SO hard, but it's got to be done. I enjoyed having the conversation with you in PHE:
